Great Art. Greater Impact.
Downstage is a small professional theatre company and registered charity known for being resilient, ambitious and impactful. Our work is funded through a combination of ticket sales, granting programs, and the support of generous individual donors, foundations and businesses. If you're excited by our work bringing new Canadian plays to the stage that engage with challenging topics, or increasing access to all Calgarians through our innovative approaches, please consider making a donation.

WHY GIVE?
Downstage creates award-winning theatrical works that spark meaningful conversations between Calgarians about issues that matter to them. We are passionate about creating opportunities for social bridging - helping people to form connections to others who are different from them in some way - and have introduced a number of initiatives to make theatre more accessible for a diverse range of Calgarians.
Over the years, we've built a robust little theatre company. We have five staff members who are also working artists and we have strong leaders in our volunteer Board of Directors. We produce Canadian scripts, premiere original creations, workshop new plays by local artists, and curate an affordable theatrical venue - all on a minimal budget where every gift helps us to increase our impact in our community.
Please contact Director of Communication and Development, Katherine Rawlinson, by email (katherine@downstage.ca) to discuss how your donation could make an impact.
Money raised can be directed to the play of your choice, including artist fees, script workshops, and/or sets and costumes in support of our charitable purpose, or to a specific project to increase access to a play. We are happy to provide prospective donors with copies of our financial statements as well as answer any questions you may have. Our legal name is "The Downstage Performance Society". We are incorporated as a society in Alberta and our charitable registration number is #856625835RR0001.
